The Irony Of It All
Bad day at the office.
I am told to talk and then am not listened to.
Told that my understanding is skewed.
Even if the world screams one thing, I need to focus on the underlying meaning,
Not the bare, simple words in front of me.
Why do people say things they don't mean? That they don't hold true?
Apparently I should know but I'm not sure I do.
I know everyone has their own issues,
But it seems easy to just tell people to "deal with it",
Even when (especially when) you barely have your own sorted.
Is it really so easy to get up in the morning simply because you have to pay your bills?
Do you really have so much will, to get through the day and function purely because there's no other way?
What to do. What to do.
Am I supposed to have it all figured out at 22?
Intuitively know what you mean when you tell me what to do?
I don't know. I don't.
I'm sorry I don't but a part of me doesn't want to be like you.
It is a scary ability to be able to put up a facade
For so long.
How long until there's no difference between the "you" you know and the "you" you show?
Do you want to be the "you" that people see? If so, when do you just get to be?
Do you ever get to be?
Is there a time you're ever free, to just live as yourself and not perform a role?
It might have gotten you here, and you might have gotten far,
But at what cost? What cost?
